Before we place any orders with manufacturers, we normally carry out a site survey. However, to assist the selection process, and for us to properly and efficiently advise you, it would be useful for you have a few bits of information, on your initial visit to our showroom:
Fireplace Opening
To aid selection it is useful to know the Width, Height & Depth of the fireplace opening
CHIMNEY
Do you have a: 9x9" chimney, pre-cast Flue or even none? Please look at FLUE TYPE page for guidance.
If you have no chimney, what is on the other side of the wall on which the fire will be mounted? E.g. your garden, neighbours garden, internal wall, pathway or alleyway etc. How close is the outside wall to your boundary?
There are always options, regardless of your circumtsance.
Gas Supply:
Is there a gas supply to the immediate area of the installation?
Ventilation
Do you have any ventilator in the room containing the proposed installation?. Some fires require ventilation, on others we can safely remove ventilation. Only do this after seeking advice.
Chimney Breast WIDTH
This is the part of the brick built chimney that extends into the room. It is unimportant for those chimneys where the breast ius on the outside of the room, thus providing a completely flat wall.
This width (left to right measurent) determines maximum width of mantel. Some clients artificially extend the breast, if it is too narrow for the selected mantle. We have a contact list of available contractors.

If you have a digital camera, it also helps to photograph any of the above aspects.
All of this information is really useful, but please be aware (apart from the chimney breast width) it is not absolutely essential at the first visit.
